On Saturday, January 28th, 2012, Uxbridge Minor Hockey in conjunction with the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club will present Uxbridge Minor Hockey Appreciation Night starting at 7:05PM at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa.

All Uxbridge Minor Hockey players, parents and volunteers are invited to the Oshawa Generals home game as the Generals take on the Brampton Battalion. Discounted tickets will be offered at $15.00 per youth and $15.00 per adult. $ 2.25 from every ticket purchased will go back to Uxbridge Minor Hockey.

This season's Uxbridge Minor PeeWee Stars, sponsored by The Ryan Waters Memorial Fund, reigned victorious this past weekend bringing home their first Championship title this 2011-12 season in winning the 6th Annual Oshawa Minor Hockeyfest Tournament.

The UMHA executive appointed three new directors at our Dec 13th meeting to replace vacancies.  We welcome Daryl Mogk, Mark Phair and Neil Weitzman to the UMHA executive and look forward to their contributions to our organization.

The Uxbridge Bantam AE hockey team headed south to Rochester for a tournament on the American Thanksgiving weekend. After 4 games, with a 3 and 1 record, the boys advanced to the semi-finals in 2^nd place. With a convincing win over the Markham Waxers, the team avoided the border rush by waiting for the final game at 4:40 pm, when they faced the Leitrim Hawks. It was a fast paced final, but by playing hard and in sync, the Stars held on to a 3-3 tie at the end of regulation time. With no goals in 4 on 4 overtime, a shoot out ensued. With Logan Hess working his magic in net, and sharp shooters Carson Bell, Billy Baker, and Tyler Baker doing what they do, the boyz came out victorious. It was an outstanding team effort, both for the seasoned veterans and the new kids on the block. Congratulations to the “Geddes Doors and Windows” Uxbridge Bantam AE Stars!

The Uxbridge Stars Major Bantam AE team recently participated in the 107^th Toronto Santa Claus Parade. The team applied in June to participate in this year’s parade and was accepted in late October. The players were fittingly dressed up and marched as Canadian hockey players. Special thanks to Coach Chris Kelly for organizing the team’s participation. A great time was had by all!!

Shoot 5,000 pucks over 10 weeks and you could win 2 tickets to the Hockey Hall of Fame and have your name put in a draw to win a signed Gary Roberts jersey. Every age group, minor and major will have a winner. Ties will be broken by a draw. All names will be put into a draw for the ultimate prize the Gary Roberts signed jersey.

The students of Quaker Village Public School were treated to thrills and chills as they hazarded through the haunted house (portable!) that was set up as a joint venture between the Uxbridge Stars Bantam AE hockey team and the QVPS Fun Squad, led by Mrs. Beattie. The team’s coach, Chris Kelly, brought over a truckload of props and the team, along with the Fun Squad members, spent hours creating a spectacular trail of spooky fun. The QVPS students paid an entrance fee of one food bank donation in order to gain entrance to the haunted halls of Portable 2. Within the building, they encountered an eerie setting, including a springy “bridge”, creepy music, fog, glow in the dark skeletons, dark corners, and mysterious coffins and boxes. Students quickly learned that Fun Squad members and/or hockey team mates were lurking in the shadows, dressed as werewolves, creepy clowns, grim reapers and the like, ready to jump out and scare them. And scare them, they did! As one QVPS student said, “It had amazing decorations, and all the jump out scares were brilliant. Also, I could tell a lot of time and effort had been put into it – it didn’t even look like a portable.” Overall, the event was a great success – a truly collaborative effort between the Uxbridge hockey team and the school spirit leaders.

New Head Contact Rule

Richmond Hill, ON: -  The 2011 Hockey Canada AGM has addressed the issue of Head Contact and continued commitment to zero tolerance measures in this area, and has implemented Rule Changes which will come into effect immediately for the 2011-2012 season.

The OHF Minor Council has also endorsed enhancements to the minimum suspensions for head contact penalties assessed in the newly approved Head Contact rule.
